Message from Rosanne
Happy October Everyone! The weather is changing (well in most parts of the country) and chants of "trick or treat" are just around the corner. But as enjoyable and fun as the fall season is, it has also been designated "Breast Cancer Awareness" month by various charity organizations in an effort to educate women as well as men, about the early detection of breast cancer. While I believe this is a very important mission, I feel it falls short of what you need to know to protect yourself and your loved ones. Not only early detection, but safe detection, prevention and natural treatments of breast cancer as well as all other cancers will give you the tools you need to deal with this deadly disease.
Recently, I have had conversations with several women about cancer, and I was surprised to find that many of them are unaware that there are things we can do to prevent it. There are many myths about cancer, one of which is that it is a genetic disease in which we have no control over. While I certainly do not profess to have all of the answers about cancer, how to prevent it, detect it or treat it, I have been quite involved in understanding it over the last few years. More recently, I have been faced with the diagnosis of a very dear friend and the choices (or lack of) that he was given for treatment. Also, there was never a quest to find out how his body became ill, in an effort to prevent a reoccurrence once the primary cancer was brought under control. This month, I would like to expand your knowledge about cancer, make it less frightening and give you more power over it. No one has all of the answers and natural medicine is not the only form of treatment that I believe in for cancer. But it is important to understand this disease and realize that we can blend different forms of treatment and preventative medicine to have the best possible outcome. It is for this reason that I ask you to join me and educators on October 10th to learn more through film, lecture and open discussion about all forms of cancer and the ways to prevent, detect and treat it.
To your health!
Peace

The Acupuncture Alliance Network (AAN) is alive and growing. It is a team of professionals who, together with Partners in Healing has joined together to make a difference in your health and well being. The AAN is not only dedicated to holistic and preventative medicine, but to connecting you with people, restaurants and businesses that will help you and your families live a more enjoyable, healthier and easier life. The people and businesses that are chosen to be part of the AAN are dedicated to 100% quality and service to your family. They are also aware of our connection to the world around us including the community as well as the environment One of our first meetings found us gathered at Salon Montage and Apothecary. The first thing you may notice is there is no smell of chemicals. In fact, the hair products are from Italy and contain no ammonia. The Apothecary attached to the salon is "a local business powered by women who are concerned about the world in which we live." They are focused on selecting items that are ecologically-minded. "Our philosophy is to offer natural and aromatherapy based items that heal, restore and nourish both the body and soul." One visit to this peaceful oasis and you will agree. Another meeting was held at Eco Simplista owned by Derek and Dana, a brother and sister team. This store is amazingly cool with numerous green alternatives. They are dedicated to providing theonly zero VOC, zero carcinogen, non-toxic premium quality line of paint available (Mythic Paint). It is so non toxic, it is drinkable (Derek has actually done it). They also have green caulking and sealant, recycled porcelain tiles, non toxic concrete stains and sealers, recycled rubber/cork flooring and FSC certified wood flooring and more! With ever expanding renewable and recycled products, be sure to go here first to learn about the other way! http://www.browardmythicpaint.com/ |
The 20 Cancer Symptoms Women are Most Likely to Ignore In addition to tests it is so very important to listen to your body and notice anything that's different, odd, or unexplainable. Here are some signs that are commonly overlooked: 1. Wheezing or shortness of breath 2. Chronic cough or chest pain 3. Frequent fevers or infections 4. Difficulty swallowing 5. Swollen lymph nodes or lumps on the neck, underarm, or groin 6. Excessive bruising or bleeding that does not stop 7. Weakness and fatigue 8. Bloating or abdominal weight gain 9. Feeling full and unable to eat 10. Pelvic or abdominal pain 11. Rectal bleeding or blood in stool 12. Unexplained weight loss 13. Upset stomach and stomachache 14. A red, sore, or swollen breast 15. Nipple changes 16. Unusually heavy or painful periods or bleeding between periods 17. Swelling of facial features 18. A sore or skin lump that doesn't heal, becomes crusty, or bleeds easily 19. Changes in nails 20. Pain in the back or lower right side Whether you are a man or woman, it's important to watch for any unusual changes in your body and energy levels in order to detect any signs of cancer early on. The sooner you notice there is a problem, the sooner you can begin to take the steps necessary to promote healing within your body. Of course, ideally you should follow an anti-cancer lifestyle even before you notice any symptoms, as prevention is the best route when it comes to most chronic disease. It is not unusual for 10 or more years to pass between exposure to a cancer-causing agent (tobacco, chemicals, radiation, cell phones, poor nutrition, etc) and detectable cancer. For a wonderful and intriguing article for breast cancer awareness month, please view this article...click here ...you will learn that Breast Cancer Awareness Month's primary sponsor and the mastermind of the event in 1985 was Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, now known as AstraZeneca. Zeneca is the company that manufactures the controversial and widely prescribed breast cancer drug, tamoxifen. All TV, radio and print media are paid for and must be approved by AstraZeneca. On May 16, 2000 the New York Times reported that the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences listed substances that are known to cause cancer. Tamoxifen was included in that list!! But it still grosses 500 million annually! |
